Learning Through Field Trips

One of the main reasons that I love homeschool is the flexibility it provides us!  We are a very outdoors family, and we all love to be out and about exploring new places.  This year our Classical Conversations Cycle 3 is on US History, and we live in a very rich area of US History!  George Washington crossed the Delaware River 8.5 miles from our house, and the battle of Trenton was fought down the street!

We are fortunate to have a lot of amazing resources at our finger tips, and our location in NJ allows us access to NJ, NY and PA sites.  There is NEVER a shortage of things to do! This year we are planning to visit the following:

Valley Forge National Park, Valley Forge PA

Adventure Aquarium, Camden NJ

Elmwood Zoo, Norristown PA

Science Center, Allentown PA

Bowmans Tower and Washington Crossing State Park, Washington Crossing NJ

Planetarium, Trenton, NJ

Bucks County Children’s Museum, New Hope, PA

In addition we will be making weekly trips to the library, bank, and grocery store. I love the bank and store because the girls are gaining an understanding of money, how we manage it and why we make the choices we make.  The grocery store is a fantastic place for them to start comparing prices (math), sorting labels and working off of a list.  I love life lessons!
