When I was in college a few of my friends got tattoos. All really tame, small hearts or flowers or angel wings to remember a loved one. At the time I thought it would be cool, but I never truly wanted one because the idea of looking at the same design year after year was too much for my Type A brain. Now that I’m a parent I have been well versed in the temporary tattoo phase with both girls and Sam – Little Man is too little to appreciate the fine art, I guess! While I’ve seen lots of Disney and Thomas the Tank Engine and Sesame Street tattoos, I had never heard of temporary tattoos for adults until a company called Armed with Truth landed in my inbox.

Armed with Truth uses temporary tattoos to help you arm yourself with Bible verses to memorize. It was such a novel concept that I had to try them out. After looking through their website I decided on the Fearless verse pack. The Fearless verse pack has 10 scripture verses to help you navigate whatever life throws at you, and as a foster/adoptive parent we have had a lot thrown at us! This seemed like the perfect pack for me to try. The verses included are as follows:
- Philippians 4:6-7 – Don’t Be Anxious
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
- Romans 5:3-4 – Be Hopeful
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.
- Isaiah 26:3 – Be Steadfast
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
- 1 John 4:4 – God Is Greater Than Anything
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
- Isaiah 43:2 – God Is With Me
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
- John 14:27 – Be At Peace
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
- 2 Corinthians 4:18 – Focus On The Unseen
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
- Matthew 6:34 – Focus On Today
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
- Isaiah 41:10 – I Am Strengthened
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
- James 1:2-3 – Rejoice At Challenges
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
When the tattoo pack arrived it was Easter week, so I put them aside to try right after Easter Sunday. I started with the verse from Romans, because I really needed the reminder that through all the crazy that we have been dealing with, we will come out refined and strengthened. Every time I glanced at my arm, I read the verse over. By the end of the week I had it memorized, even after I washed the tattoo off.
I was also sent a designer tattoo pack of Faith Not Fear, and once again this has been a perfect way for me to remember over and over that my faith will trump fear; that fear will not win and God’s plan, when it is revealed will be perfect for me. While I’ve enjoyed the verse tattoos – this one has been my favorite to wear!
I was a tad worried about how my skin would react, since I have sensitive skin but I was pleasantly surprised! The tattoo went on easily with some warm water on a cloth, and stayed on for over a week before it started to fade. When I was ready to take it off I used some rubbing alcohol to make sure all the reside was gone, but that was it. No redness, no irritation at all. I’ve had the Faith Not Fear on for over a week because I really love it, and the tattoo still looks like new.
For people who know me well, I’ve had some surprised looks and questions about getting inked, and it’s so fun to assure them it’s just temporary! My kids love them too – and Sophie has asked me if she can wear one on her arm to memorize a verse. Such a simple and fun tool to spread God’s word in our hearts, and a great conversation starter too!
