I’ve shared before that we are an American Girl doll family, and all the furniture and accessories have been taking over the girls’ bedroom. After a visit to the Dolly & Me store where she saw a doll house sized for American Girl dolls, Sophie has been asking Ken to build her one. We weren’t quite sure where to start, and I’ve been searching Pinterest for ideas.
Last week I went to IKEA with a friend (love that store!!) and found 2 of the BESTA TV unit bases in white in the “as is” section marked down to $29.00 each. Score!
If you look closely, you can see that the cabinets weren’t in perfect shape, but considering what we wanted to do with them, I didn’t mind. Once we got them home the girls cleaned them up with wipes, and then decided what rooms they wanted. After much discussion, the girls decided that they wanted a bedroom, kitchen, dining room and living room. Of course, right now we don’t have any living room furniture, so we have a bathroom instead.
To decorate the cubes I used spray adhesive, 12×12 scrapbook paper and some left over peel and stick tile. It took us about 1.5 hours to finish the doll house and then the girls had a great time putting all the furniture in and setting the dolls up.
Now comes the fun part – adding the accessories to make a house a home likes lamps, pictures, etc. I’ve been searching Pinterest for ideas and the girls are looking forward to some fun shopping excursions in the coming weeks – so stay tuned!
