We managed to make almost seven years before American Girl entered our house. Sophie was never into baby dolls, and Bella loves her baby animals and friends – but not dolls so much. I was thinking that we were possibly past the doll phase (much to my MIL’s chagrin) when the American Girl catalog landed in our mailbox.
First, I would LOVE to know HOW it got there? I didn’t request it, and we have never purchased anything from the American Girl Store…..but it appeared one summer day like magic, and instantly my girls were drawn in. Suddenly they were making up lists and deciding which American Girl doll they liked and checking out accessories and wardrobes and pets! I am completely blown away by how detailed the American Girl company is, and they have their marketing perfect!
As we were trying to decide if we would take the plunge for Christmas, a sweet friend from home who relocated to NJ a few months ago messaged me on Facebook and asked if we would like 2 of her American Girl dolls for our girls. We were speechless and quickly replied *yes*….and thanks to Erin and Steve we made the girls very, very happy.
Our family grew by 2 – please welcome Samantha and Kirsten:
The girls know that these dolls are very expensive and that they need to take very good care of them. Three weeks in and they are such good little mommies! They dress their dolls every day, style their hair and take them every where. Since neither of them were ever interested in dolls it’s all new to us to watch them dote on their babies, but it is adorable to see!
Sophie has a great interest in styling Samantha’s hair, and I’ve already had to figure out a way to *fix* messy hair without going to a doll stylist….which I had NO idea even existed! We’ve also come up with a way to store all the doll stuff that suddenly took over the girls’ bedroom, and I have started sewing very simple dresses for Samantha and Kirsten. It’s been so much fun to see them enjoy this new phase together!!
