Welcome to the Counting Our Blessings Link Up! Each week we are focusing on finding blessings in the every day messy lives that we all lead. It’s easy to participate – find some blessings, write a post and link up here! Apologies for last week – I have no idea why the linky wasn’t showing!!
Last week I was so upset that Baby S’s surgery got postponed again. I even questioned why I thought I could handle foster care and contemplated giving it all up. I spent the end of the week in tears, and was so blessed by sweet friends who prayed with us and for us. This week, however I could clearly see God’s hand in the entire mess that last week was.
Here’s the pieces that all came together on Monday morning:
On Saturday my mom came down for a surprise visit, which was wonderful and allowed me to catch up on laundry and general house cleaning – I even got a nap in!
On Sunday I was able to sit and enjoy the morning worship service with Baby J, while my mom snuggled with Baby S. I’ve missed the last few Sundays since having 4 kiddos by myself in church is a teensy bit hard. Sunday afternoon I got to take another nap – woohoo!
Monday morning Baby S and I were up at 3am to get ready to head for the hospital. Thankfully the admissions team had the correct form, we got everything signed and headed into the prep room. As they were taking Baby S into surgery the anesthesiologist turned to me and asked if he was born full term. I said no, he was born at 36 weeks and everything came to a sudden stop.
Since Baby S was technically a preemie, he would have to be admitted overnight and I would have to stay with him, or there would be no surgery.
I told them to do the surgery and breathed a prayer over him as he was carried into the OR.
I called my mom a few minutes before she was about to leave and asked her to stay – and she said yes.
I didn’t have anything for an extended stay – no bottles/formula/wipes – the hospital provided it all for us.
I didn’t have anything for me, but there was a Wal Mart 50 feet from the hospital were I was able to grab a few things.
Baby S came through surgery great and we were checked into a room by 11am. There was a *little* excitement during our stay which I’ll share later.
I told the doctors we HAD to be discharged by 11am so I could get Bella to her eye appointment, and we walked out the revolving door at 10:55am.
Everything worked like clockwork – according to His plan.
Today I am counting all the above as blessings – things didn’t go how I thought they should go, and it would have been very easy to throw up my hands and declare that I was done with it. Thankfully I didn’t, and now I’m able to see how He orchestrated everything – even down to me getting a shower at the hospital!
What about you – what blessings are you counting today?
