I like to sew. I can sew straight lines and maybe some curves, but that’s it.
I don’t like reading patterns. So, after looking at 6 yards of red and white polka dot material for a few months, I finally decided to make Minnie Mouse skirts for my girls with a pattern from my head.
These are super easy….trust me.
Supplies needed:
Fabric
Tulle {a roll of tulle will make your life SO easy!}
Pins
Waist Elastic
I measured how long I wanted my skirt to be and added to 2 inches for the hem and waistband and cut out the rectangle. I left the fabric at the width of the panel. {Told you this was easy!}
Next you want to ruffle the tulle. If I can do this…you totally can. Cut at least 120 inches of tulle – more if you’d like it fuller. Set your stitch length to the longest length and do a running stitch down the center of your tulle. Keep it centered, and DO NOT BACKSTITCH.
Now, pull one thread towards you and the tulle will ruffle. {I seriously didn’t believe it could be this easy!} You’ll have a pile that looks like the picture above. {Hint – I used white thread so it would show up in the pictures. You can match the thread to your tulle}
Take your fabric and turn up the bottom hem 1/4 of an inch. Iron.
Fold the tulle in half length way along your ruffle line and pin it to your hem. Use LOTS of pins. Trust me.
Stitch the tulle to your hem.
Fold the fabric right side together and stitch up the seam to make a tube. Cut off excess fabric. Iron seam.
Measure your elastic. I used my daughter’s waist minus 2 inches. Check your elastic because each one is different.
Turn your fabric at the top down at least 1.5 inches {or enough to cover your elastic} and stitch around.
Make sure to leave an opening to slip the elastic through.
Take a large pin and guide the elastic through the waistband.
Stitch the ends of the elastic together and tuck them into the waistband.
Sew up the waistband.
And viola – you have an adorable Minnie Mouse skirt!
I was able to make 2 skirts {one for each girl} in less than an hour!

This is so cute! It was really helpful. My date and I are going to our Sadie Hawkins dance dressed as Minnie and Mickey and I’ve been looking EVERYWHERE for a cute and easy skirt to make. Thanks!
