More than JUST a Pastor’s Wife

I’ve been a pastor’s wife for nine years.

Ken was 4 years into a pastorate when we got married, so I became a pastor’s wife overnight.  It’s been a bumpy road, full of ups and downs, filled with blessings and a little heartache.

Here are the Top Ten things I’ve learned from being a pastor’s wife:

10. Living in a manse {or church owned property} can be hard. It’s awesome to not have a mortgage; but it’s hard when things need to be fixed.

9.   There are healthy churches and not so healthy churches. We’ve served in both, and each have their own set of challenges.

8.   The idea of leading church school gives me chills, even after nine years. I finally volunteered to lead crafts for VBS and it went well {I think}.

7.   My lack of self confidence is still there, underneath my calm facade. Thankfully my awesome hubby encourages me daily. So blessed by him!

6.   It’s taken me a long time to trust that the friends I make who attend our church like me for me, and not my position as the pastor’s wife.

5.   Not sitting with my husband in church is hard. It was harder when both girls were younger, but even now I miss just sitting next to him, holding his hand.

4.   Communication is key. Enough said?

3.    There are times when it’s hard {or impossible!} to keep the church life and home life separate.

2.   Our family life is an open book, much more so than I ever realized. It has taken me a long time to be okay with people knowing our salary and arguing over what benefits we can have.

1.  I am so much more than a pastor’s wife!

The best thing about being a pastor’s wife is that I get to watch my hubby do what he is called to every single day. It rocks!

What are your thoughts? Are you a pastor’s wife?

{For those wondering, we are a PCUSA family}
