Lobsters, Hippos and Sharks

Fact: We went to the Aquarium to visit the hippopotamuses {and if you could only hear Bella pronouncing it!} and the big sharks.

Fact: The girls loved visiting the penguins, since the last time we were at the Aquarium it was raining and very chilly. They laughed at the sea lions and then decided it was time to go back inside.

Fact: We visited with the hippos for a bit, and then we watched the fish swim in a floor to ceiling tank. Seriously – it never gets old. I love just sitting and watching the show.

Fact: The girls have been really into Princess Ariel and her friends Sebastian and Flounder after our Disney trip, so we decided to head over to the lobster tank to visit them. While there, Sophie happened to see an education video about lobsters and was horrified to watch a sea turtle rip off part of the lobster’s legs to eat. I felt so bad for her!

Fact: Daddy sat with Bella while I took Sophie over to a quiet spot and we talked about why the turtle ate the lobster and why we eat meat. I wasn’t quite prepared to have this conversation with my 4 year old, but she calmed down and did quite fine. {and of course, what did we have for dinner? Fish sticks!}

Fact: Bella had a great time petting the starfish and the sharks.  We had to keep one hand on her as I think she really wanted to dive in with them. Sophie was less impressed and had no interest in petting anything.

Fact: After a stop for an ice cream treat we headed home. On a fun note, my 4 year old corrected one of the college aged volunteers about sharks and Bella charmed a scuba diver into blowing her kisses while he was swimming in the large tank. I also took my new camera lens with me, and while I have a lot to learn, I’m really happy with some of the photos that I took!
